Jet Lag and Culture Lag

Jet lag, by Wikipedia, is medically referred to a dysenchronosis. It is a physiological condition from rapid long-distance trans meridian (east-west or west-east) travel usually by airplane. This results from alterations to the body’s circadian rhythms. A circadian rhythm is an endogenously driven roughly 24-hour cycle in biochemical, physiological, or behavioral processes. But most of us think that the word lag is mostly used with the word ‘jet’ during travel. To be lagged can also be psychological and this expression known as either cultural jet lag/social jet lag.

Cultural jet lag was first coined by psychologist Marc Perraud. He invented the word when he was doing cross-cultural psychology research. He defines cultural jet lag as phenomenon of partial socialization in adults born from bi-cultural/national unions and whose childhood was characterized by nomadic displacement during key personality development stages.

For example, an American child, born in Thailand with American parents, lived in Thailand for a long time and decided to go back to America. The child who grew up in Thailand, so she is surrounded by a Thai culture which she may have absorbed some or most of it. Her parents are American so she is brought up by an American home but still her environment is a strong element that will still influence her as a person. So when she goes back to America the environment would surely be not the same. It would be hard for her to adopt the culture to blend in. Jet lag or culture lag it is, we don’t want either of it.

Are You Ready for the New NFL Season?

I don't get to watch NFL too often but everytime I do, I would surely be stuck until the end of the game. Now that the new NFL is coming, I wonder who would make it to the top players. Since I am a fan of whoever is the top player, I can name a few who made it to my favorite top three players, in order. I would take Adrian Peterson, of RB, Minnesota Vikings who is unquestionably the top running back from 2007 draft. Second would be JaMarcus Russell, QB, Oakland Raiders mainly because of his big arms. Who can fight against those big arms of his? LOL.

Third would be Brady Quinn, QB, Cleveland Browns because he's so young and yet he made his way into NFL. He plays for Browns since 2007.

Talking about NFL players make me wonder if my son, one day, would make to any of the Football Leagues. LOL. Travel Blog Template

I have finally made my own travel blog header. It's so hard to find a travel blog template that suits my travel blog. I have finally sat down and created my header. There is still some glitches though. I would have to edit it when I have time... next time.

I have put back my photos on the left side bar... but only Malaysia photos. Need to upload the International photos I took... so I can put label that way.

So far, so good. Am happy with my travel blog template now.

Long Break

Seems that I have taken a long break from posting in this blog. I still have a lot of photos to post from our recent Macau-Hongkong-China trip. I have only posted photos of Macau and Hong Kong. I haven't posted the photos I took in China yet. Will have to take time to post them. I loved my time in China. The kids loved China too.

We are moving house soon. So I'll probably just wait until we're settled then I will come back here and post our China Photos.

Hong Kong - The Peak

Victoria Peak is the highest point of the whole of Hong Kong Island. There are modern malls, restaurants, museums, theatres and various recreational facilities. The spectacular view of Hong Kong with stunning skyline and dazzling neon makes you feel dazzled.

I took several photos of Hong Kong skyline from different angles. These were the best angles I could take. It was foggy when we reached there that's why the photo is a bit blur.

But at night, when the lights were on, it looks like this: really dazzling.

Hubby's friends met us at The Peak and took us at The Peak Lookout Restaurant. The prices of the food was also sky high. I had spring chicken for RM100+ which was the cheapest. Good thing it was a treat from hubby's friends. LOL.
